Speaker: Larry Benz, PT
Dr. Laurence (Larry) Benz is the President/CEO of PT Development LLC a private equity firm with operating holdings in physical therapy, practice management consulting and medical education,occupational health, urgent medical care, and medical trustee and receivership. Amongst the holdings of PT Development LLC include Texas Physical Therapy Specialists, Fit For Work LLC, ProRehab-PC, Evidence In Motion, US Worldmeds, Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, NetNearU, Acute-Care of Elizabethtown, and MyPhysicalTherapySpace.com.

From 1987 to Sept 2007, he founded and served as President/CEO of Kentucky Orthopedic Rehab Team (KORT), a private practice outpatient physical therapy company currently comprised of more than 35 locations throughout the greater Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky region. He was appointed as a director of Blue Dolphin Energy (Ticker: BDCO) in 2004. From 1984 through 1989, he served in the U.S. Army as a Captain in the Army Medical Specialists Corps. Dr. Benz currently serves as director of the charitable organization Neighborhood Engagement.

Dr. Benz received his undergraduate education at Bowling Green State University, Masters degree in Physical Therapy from Baylor University, a Masters in Business Administration from The Ohio State University and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from MGH Institute of Health Professions . He is nationally recognized for his expertise in private practice physical therapy, industrial medicine, and marketing. A frequent lecturer at multiple physical therapy and MBA educational programs throughout the country, Dr. Benz has served on the American Physical Therapy Association's Advisory Panel on Practice and the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He is the recipient of numerous business and physical therapy awards including the 2006 Regional Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He has also received the Gallup Award for Healthcare Excellence in 2006.

Title: Assessment and Treatment of Common Foot/Ankle Dysfunctions An evidence based approach

Speaker: Patrick Tarnowski, PT, MBA, SCS
Mr. Tarnowski received his degree in physical therapy from Boston University in 1988 and his master’s in business administration from the University of St Thomas in 2001. He is a board certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy and has presented more than 200 lectures across the country on lower extremity biomechanics, therapeutic modalities and foot/ankle dysfunction. He has been the principal investigator in multiple clinical studies and is currently Director of the Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute in Minneapolis, MN and a member of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Board of Directors.

Course Description: This one day seminar will present a practical approach to the assessment and treatment of common foot/ankle dysfunction. Participants will enjoy a good mix of lecture and lab that will be immediately applicable in the clinic.

Objectives: At the conclusion of this course participants will:

  • Describe the functional biomechanics of the lower extremity during normal gait
  • Recognize biomechanical contributors to lower extremity dysfunction
  • Have a strategy to perform a comprehensive, functional examination of the lower extremity.
  • Identify common foot/ankle dysfunction as they relate to intrinsic and extrinsic factors.
  • Have strategies for effectively treating common foot/ankle dysfunction including joint mobilization, open and closed chain activities, tape, footwear and orthotics.
